Desiplaza : Your Desi Community website

We know that radio is a big part of our community in Dallas. Last year we used to have lot of fun with FunAsia Radio on 700am & Radio Salaam Namaste on 104.9 FM station. But last year there was a dramatic change when RSN was acquired by Fun Asia. Fun Asia is now the Leader & a kind of only Desi Radio Right now. Being the only radio has it's advantages, everybody have to go to them for their needs as there is nobody else to serve them. Competition is very tight & Revenues are very limited. But with out competition there is no fun. The scope of getting another radio station right now to weather the challenge of FunAsia is very low.

But a small efforts are being made with in the community right now. Radio 1220 am (Radio Hot Pepper) that recently acquired more power to transmit all over dallas, though established around 8 years ago, used to cater to bedford & arlington area. Another small attempt is made by an individual on 990am trying to squeeze into the terrain with his effort (3-5pm)  (this might be a rumour). Just wondering how everything is going to work out. But if we see the reach, stability & health of FunAsia, I just wonder, if these new attempts with the radio stations will be able to make it.
